Is the newly elected councillors’ joy short-lived, considering that the Bill on splitting the BBMP is pending before President Pranab Mukherjee?

The ruling Congress is keen on going ahead with its plan to split the BBMP in the event of the Bill being approved by Mr Mukherjee. The Bill, which was passed by both the Houses of the State legislature, has been forwarded to the President for his assent by Governor Vajubhai R. Vala. The Congress, in its manifesto for the 2013 Assembly elections, had promised to make smaller units of the BBMP.

A cautious Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, soon after the results were announced on Tuesday, said the State Cabinet would discuss the issue of splitting the BBMP after the President gives his nod to the Bill. KPCC president G. Parameshwara said the party had not changed its stance on the issue and was committed to dividing the BBMP.
