Bus stands and railway stations in the city were practically deserted on Thursday in the run-up to the Ayodhya verdict.
Though the state road transport corporations and the Railways ran their operations as usual, passenger flow fell by 30 per cent to 50 per cent, said senior officials of these two transport entities.
The Kempegowda Bus Station at Majestic, which is usually abuzz with thousands of passengers, reported fewer footfalls for a good part of the day, though in the afternoon there was a rush of commuters who were on their way back home.
BMTC Director (Security and Vigilance) Arun Chakravarthy told The Hindu that there had been reduction in the load factor, but it was too early to quantify it.
The KSRTC too saw reduced load factor.
The Bangalore City Railway Station also reported reduced passenger traffic. “About 25 per cent advance reservations were cancelled,” Divisional Railway Manager Sudhanshu Mani said.
