The traffic police, on Saturday, issued a ban on the entry of long distance contract carriage buses and all India tourist permit buses into the city between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. from February 1 to 5. Since KSRTC and BMTC buses are not covered by this ban, the State-run corporation and BMTC officials were scrambling on Saturday to arrange extra buses to meet the anticipated rush.
The move comes a day after the police banned the entry of goods vehicles on certain roads between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. on the same dates. The ban is to prevent traffic jams during Invest Karnataka 2016 scheduled between February 3 and 5 at Palace Grounds.
Faced with stiff opposition once the ban was announced for all private buses, the traffic police backed down and diluted the ban to cover only two classes of private buses. These are usually the kind that ferry passengers between cities.
“All long distance contract carriage private buses and all India permit buses are restricted to outside the Outer Ring Road,” said a statement from Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) M.A. Saleem.
Goods vehicles — both small and medium size — will not be permitted on Ballari Road (Yelahanka to Mekhri Circle), Ramana Maharshi Road (circle to Cauvery Junction), Sankey Road (Rajbhavan to Yeshwantpur Circle), C.V. Raman Road (IISc. to Mekhri Circle), Jayamahal Road (Mekhri Circle to Cantonment Railway Station), Cunningham Road (Balekundri Circle to Le Meridian Hotel junction), Infantry Road (Ali Asker Road to traffic headquarters), Rajbhavan Road (CTO Junction to Basaveshwara Circle), Race Course Road (Basaveshwara Circle to Anand Rao Circle) and Kumara Krupa Road (Windsor Manor to Shivananda Circle) between 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Ban does not include KSRTC and BMTC buses, who are scrambling to arrange extra buses
