Four persons died and three were injured on Wednesday when a BMTC bus collided with a goods auto, a couple of two-wheelers and a cycle on the Lingarajapuram flyover in Banaswadi traffic police limits. The accident took place around 6.40 p.m.
The driver lost control over the bus, which jumped the median and went to the other side of the flyover before colliding with the oncoming vehicles.
There were three persons in the auto — two died while the third was injured. A man on a bike died and so did another riding a scooter.
Police gave the names of the deceased as Syed Muneer (56), a battery dealer from Shivajinagar; Aslam Ahmed (46) and Mohammed Noorullah Ghous. At the time this report was filed, they were attempting to identity the fourth deceased. A couple — Ramesh Kumar (35) and his wife Susheelamma (28), residents of Kacharakanahalli — sustained fractures on their limbs.
However, officials said that none of the bus passengers or the driver was hurt.
The bodies were taken to Bowring Hospital.
The bus was plying from Vidhana Soudha to BDS Nagar and the driver is being questioned regarding the incident. BMTC officials visited the spot. C.G. Anand, BMTC General Manager (Technical division), said, “The bus driver has not complained of brake failure. However, a team of experts will inspect the vehicle and submit a report on the accident.”
The police want to question the bus driver.
Due to the accident, the roads around the flyover were choked. Traffic had to be diverted via three alternative roads.
