The HAL police have cracked the murder of 12-year-old Naveen Kumar with the arrest of a burglar, who is accused of having killed the boy after he witnessed the accused breaking into a house.

The boy, a class 6 student, was found murdered in a vacant area near the Islampura slum, with his head crushed with a brick. His body was found a week after he went missing on November 8.

The police said that the accused, Mohammed Sharif (21), a resident of the slum, had recently committed a burglary that the boy had reportedly noticed. Fearing that Naveen would inform the police, Sharif plotted to kill the boy and approached Naveen on November 8. He lured him saying he wanted to fly kites with him but allegedly crushed his face and head with a brick and later covered his body with a banner.

Upon questioning some of the youths from the Islampura slum, the police learnt that Naveen and Sharif had been seen together on November 8. Based on this, the police tracked down the burglar and nabbed him.

Two end lives

Two persons committed suicide in separate incidents in Peenya police limits since Monday night.

An employee of a private company, who was visually impaired, was found hanging in his house at Nelagedaranahalli on Tuesday.

The deceased, Sunil R. (22), a native of Hassan, had been staying in the city with his friend Arun for a year. When Arun returned from work, he was concerned that Sunil did not open the door. When he peeped through the window, he saw Sunil’s body hanging and alerted the landlord as well as the police.

Sunil’s father told the police that his son may have been depressed because of his disability and suspected that this may be the reason for his decision to end his life.

In another incident, a 41-year-old employee of a liquor outlet committed suicide by hanging himself at his residence in Chinnanayakanahalli on Tuesday. The body was found by his wife and children when they returned from a visit to a relative’s house. The police said that S.R. Girish had been a worker with the BBMP before he started working in the liquor outlet. He had allegedly borrowed money from several people and had been unable to repay them.
