A two-storeyed warehouse on which the third floor was being constructed collapsed in Nelamangala here on Sunday. Six persons were injured and one person is feared trapped in the rubble, while more than a dozen daily wage labourers had a narrow escape, according to the police.
The two-storeyed building, a warehouse of a retail food chain, was constructed six years ago. Usually as many as 100 people work in the building that houses a logistics company besides the warehouse. But on Sunday when the building came crashing down, only daily wage labourers were there working on the ground and the first floor.
The missing man has been identified as Mukesh (22), a truck driver who had come to the building site to unload construction material.
Fire and Emergency Services personnel rushed to the spot as soon as they received a phone call at around 10 a.m.
With the help of locals, their search for the missing man continued on Sunday night.
According to the police, collapse was reportedly preceded by a rumble. Twenty-two workers on the ground floor rushed out of the building when they heard the rumble. But in the process, six of them were injured. The Madanayakanahalli police registered a case of negligence against the owner of the building, Makali Ravi.
Krishna Byre Gowda, MLA, visited the spot. He later told presspersons that the police will take action against the building owner.
