Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases (RGICD) Director Shashidhar Buggi's 24-year-old daughter, Arundathi, tested positive for swine flu on Friday, and she has been quarantined at home.
We have started her on Tamiflu and she has been quarantined at home. The other family members, including my wife, son, daughter-in-law and myself, are taking prophylactics. Though my wife is a little worried, I have advised her in the same way that I advise my patients. People should stop panicking and accept this as any other viral infection and get treated, Dr. Buggi told The Hindu .
He said that his daughter, along with 15 friends, had gone on a picnic to Bandipur on August 7 and returned on August 9.
She had mild fever on August 10 and was taking paracetamol for two days. Subsequently, she developed cough and cold and I prescribed antibiotics. But when the symptoms did not subside, I got her swabs tested and she has tested positive, Dr. Buggi said.
He said he had asked all her friends to come for screening on Saturday.
Two of the 15 girls in the group have already developed some symptoms. They will be examined and given treatment if required, Dr. Buggi said.
