On Friday, a section of teachers of the Bangalore University (BU) decided to get together at the Central College to voice their opinion against what they termed was a “harmful” decision to BU as well as the future of higher education in the State.
They were of the opinion that there is “no rationale for the trifurcation, except for a flimsy reason of large number of colleges”, and were miffed about not being taken into confidence before implementing the decision to trifurcate the varsity.
“The whole method is wrong, ill-sided and unscientific. BU, which is functioning with less than 50 per cent of its teaching and administration staff, is being trifurcated along with its resources that will further create chaos. This step in the wrong direction would jeopardise the two probable new universities,” a press statement from the faculty members said.
They also countered the government’s rationale behind dividing the university – that of problems with examination and administration – by offering examples of University of Delhi, Mumbai University, and Pune University, as well as the State’s own Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences and Visvesvaraya Technological University.
