Bangalore University is contemplating the building of a fully-fledged sports complex on the Central College premises here, said university officials here on Monday.
Speaking on the sidelines of a felicitation function , Vice-Chancellor Prof. B. Thimmegowda conceded that the varsity had a dire need for such a facility . “We lack an infrastructure to match national standards, far less international ones,” he said.
It is with this objective that we would like to build an indoor sports complex on the Central College campus rather than at Jnanabharathi (on Mysore Road) so that more students can utilize it, said Mr. Thimmegowda.
The complex, for which the basic plans are said to have been drawn up, is estimated at Rs. 65 crore. It is expected to occupy a minimum area of 130mx80m. The Vice-Chancellor further stated that a site for the complex had already been identified.
