Recently, Bangalore University (BU) got a request from the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan department in Uttar Pradesh to verify the marks cards of 20 employees. Officials were shocked to see that they bore the BU’s symbol, but were printed in Telugu.
It is to prevent such instances in the future that the BU has come out with new marks cards for all its three lakh-odd student base. Though the new one is similar to the old marks cards, BU promises that it will be packed with 10 security features.
“We have started giving them to second, fourth and sixth semester students. Though we cannot reveal what the security features are, we can safely say that they are tamper-proof as the features are hidden and can only be seen with the help of special equipment,” said BU Registrar (Evaluation) Ningegowda K.N.
BU, one of the largest universities in the country, prints nearly 20 lakh marks cards each year for undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma and distance education courses.
Prof. Ningegowda also said that BU will not keep marks cards for over a week after they are readied. “If colleges don’t come to collect them by then, we will despatch them,” he added.
