BSc. graduates in the State who wish to avail themselves of the opportunity to gain lateral entry to the second year of engineering courses will have to wait till the completion of admission for diploma students who have become eligible for the same seats after clearing the Diploma Common Entrance Test (DCET).
The option entry for the second round of counselling for diploma students ends on Tuesday. The final seat allotment will be made available on Wednesday. Only after this will the remaining seats be on offer to the BSc. graduates who have already applied for the engineering courses. As many as 14,682 seats are on offer for the second round of counselling for DCET students.
As per the AICTE guidelines, students who have received a BSc. from a university recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) with at least 45 per cent marks and who have passed class 12 with mathematics as a subject are eligible. However, they are expected to clear engineering graphics or engineering drawing and engineering mechanics of the first year engineering syllabus along with the second year subjects.
An official from the KEA said that they were yet to process the application forms of the BSc. students and were waiting to first complete the seat allotment process for diploma students. “By the coming Monday, we should be able to start the process,” the official said.
While students and parents who had to wait for two years for the scheme to be implemented in the State (it was introduced in 2011 by the AICTE) are hoping to still be offered some remaining seats in reputed colleges as there is an excess of engineering seats this year too. Many top colleges reported almost full capacity by Monday, which was the last date to report to the colleges for students.
