A miniscule margin of 0.13 per cent has finally seen boys beat the overall pass percentage of girl students and break the trend in the CBSE class 12 results.

Karnataka’s results are in contrast with the national average, where girls with a pass per cent of 87.56 outperformed boys by 9.79 per cent, retaining the trend.

The State, which reported a dip by 2.3 per cent in the overall pass percentage, also dropped to the fourth place from third last year in the Chennai region — comprising five southern States and four Union Territories. The State’s pass per cent of 95.45 is more than Chennai region’s aggregate pass per cent of 91.14 and the nationwide pass per cent of 82.

With only 428 candidates, Puducherry — which recorded average pass percentage of 98.36 — tops Chennai region. In Karnataka, of the total 9,059, only 412 did not clear the exam. Out of the 4,046 girls, 3,859 have passed the exam and of the 5,013 boys, 4,788 have passed. However, there appeared to be discrepancies in the figures given by the CBSE office in Delhi and the regional office in Chennai. While the Chennai regional office puts the region’s pass per cent at 90.65, the headquarters said that the region office figures stand at 91.14 per cent. In terms of standing, Puducherry is followed by Tamil Nadu (97.06 per cent) and Goa (96.79 per cent).

States and Union territories, which have obtained lesser pass percentage compared to Karnataka include Andaman and Nicobar Islands (66.57 per cent), Andhra Pradesh (87.84 per cent), Daman and Diu (89.08 per cent), Maharashtra (91.59 per cent), and Telengana (92.69 per cent).

In the Chennai region, the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas have secured the best results with 98.56 per cent passes, followed by Kendriya Vidalaya with 95.86 per cent passes.
