Two boys in the city were assaulted by adults and both suffered injuries.
A Class 7 student, Richard Paul, was allegedly subjected to corporal punishment on December 11 at the Lake Montfort School, Avalahalli, and his mother, a nurse, said he was hit so hard he has lost 70 per cent hearing.
According to the police complaint filed by S. Bhagyamma three days later, the teacher allegedly beat him up and twisted two of his fingers after he was found quarrelling with his classmates.
“When we returned home that day, he was in pain and said his ears were paining. I immediately took him to Victoria Hospital. The doctors initially told us it could be due to congestion. But then they diagnosed that he had lost 70 per cent hearing ability,” sand Ms. Bhagyamma.
She said her son went to school till December 14, only to be “humiliated and teased” by the teachers and students. She herself was reportedly insulted when she went to seek an explanation. It was then that she approached the police. “I feel my son should continue studying there but I am also scared for him, ” the distressed mother said.
The school authorities have been summoned to the police station. The former, despite repeated attempts, were unavailable for comments.
In the other assault, a 10-year-old boy landed in hospital with severe head injuries after he was beaten up by a neighbour for playing cricket in front of her house in Lingarajpuram on Monday evening.
Vishal was playing cricket with three other children in front of the house of Sundareshan, a relative of the local councillor. Objecting to the noise the children were making Sundareshan’s wife rushed outside and caught hold of Vishal. She then allegedly started beating Vishal with a wooden plank that had a nail. The battering left Vishal with bleeding injuries.
While the news spread in the locality, agitated residents gathered in front of her residence demanding an explanation. “She was rude and instead of apologising, she told us that she is related to the councillor and nobody could touch her,” Vishal’s mother Gayatri told The Hindu .
