The HSR Layout police on Monday arrested two engineers of Bescom on the charges of negligence and dereliction of duty in connection with the death of a 12-year-old boy, who was electrocuted in Somasandrapalya on April 2.

The arrested persons are Assistant Engineer Manjunath and Junior Engineer Basavaraju, attached to Bommanahalli division.

The police said that the victim, Puneeth, was playing cricket along with his friends when he came in contact with a live high tension wire, which was dangling. The engineers had allegedly been informed about the dangerously dangling wire but had ignored the complaint, police said.

They visited the spot only after the boy was electrocuted. They had also misled the investigation and senior Bescom officers by claiming that the boy died due to a fall and hitting stones, police said.

They were arrested after police received the post mortem report, which cited electrocution as the reason for death. They have been charged with causing death due to negligence.
