Former Minister S. Shivanna has demanded action against the Commissioner of Tumakuru City Corporation for ‘illegally’ drilling a borewell on National Highway 206 near a place of worship (dargah).

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, he alleged that the borewell was sunk near the Town Hall Circle under the supervision of corporation officers without taking permission from the NHAI (National Highways Authority of India) and Tumakuru City Corporation, to help devotees wash their hands and legs.

He said the devotees of a place of worship of another community on the other side of NH 206 near Town Hall Circle are now demanding one more borewell for them so that they can also wash their hands and legs before entering their place of worship. He alleged that Tumakuru City MLA Rafiq Ahmed supported the sinking of the borewell.

Mr. Shivanna demanded that the Deputy Commissioner shift both the places of worship, which are opposite to each other, for smooth movement of vehicles.

Bharatiya Janata Party leaders M.B. Nandish, S. Shivaprasad, K.P. Mahesh and others were present.
