Bolstered by BBMP poll victory, BJP focusses on Congress-free Karnataka

"BBMP poll results have deep implications on the future developments, not only in Karnataka, but in the entire southern region"

August 28, 2015 12:00 am | Updated March 29, 2016 06:01 pm IST - BENGALURU:

In high spirits after the victory in the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike, the Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party leadership is now focussing on ensuring a ‘Congress-free’ Karnataka, besides using this occasion for strengthening its position in the southern region, said BJP national general secretary and State in-charge P. Muralidhar Rao.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, he said: “BBMP poll results have deep implications on the future developments, not only in Karnataka, but in the entire southern region.” He called upon Karnataka to become a “lamp post” for its neighbours to help strengthen the BJP organisation there.

Asking the Congress to seriously read the “Bengaluru lesson”, he said the Siddaramaiah government should try to understand what the people are feeling about its governance. Alleging that the Congress government in the State was dysfunctional and failed to bring in transparency or deliver services effectively, he said at the national level, the Congress had become a “disruption force” by obstructing democratic institutions like the Parliament.

He said Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was giving sermons to other States instead of correcting his Karnataka leaders.
