A 55-year-old woman's body was found in a raja kaluve in MEI Layout in Peenya on Friday night.

The police said that the deceased has been identified as Venkatalakshamma, a flower vendor and resident of Bagalgunte. When she did not return home on Friday evening, her daughter Savithramma went looking for her but in vain.

On Friday night, a few passersby noticed a body floating in the Raja Kaluve in MEI Layout and informed the police, who rushed to the spot along with Fire and Emergency personnel and recovered the body.

The police could not identify the body and on Saturday morning, they went around the area showing residents a photograph of the deceased to find someone who could identify her.

A resident of Bagalgunte gave the police the address of the deceased's house.

The body was sent for post-mortem. The cause of death is yet to be ascertained. The police are investigating if she fell accidentally or was pushed. A case has been registered in Peenya police station.
