The body of a 14-year-old high school student, who went missing three days ago, was found in a lake at Basapura on the outskirts of the city on Saturday. The Class 8 student hailed from Pavagada, but was living with her aunt in Begur so that she could go to a government school in Singasandra.

According to the police, the girl had an irregular attendance record, and her aunt had recently reprimanded her about it. “She warned the girl that she would be send her back to her home-town if this continued,” said the police.

The girl attended classes on Wednesday, but did not return home in the evening. Her aunt alerted the parents before filing a missing person complaint with the police.

On Sunday, passers-by in Basapura saw a body floating in the lake and alerted the Electronics City police, who identified the girl after recovering a school I-card from a pocket in her uniform.

The police have taken up a case of unnatural death.
