BMTF books more BBMP engineers

The Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force (BMTF) has slapped cases against five more Assistant Executive Engineers of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagar Palike (BBMP) for not acting against violators.

The engineers were booked under Section 217 of Indian Penal Code, which prescribes punishment for a government servant for disobeying the law.

The engineers — from Rajajinagar, Govindrajnagar, Basaveshwarnagar, Kempegowda Nagar and J.P. Nagar — have been charged with not taking action against violators of building bylaws despite being alerted by the public.

Faced by such apathy, the complainants approached the BMTF, whose investigations found substance in the complaints.

The BMTF had booked eight engineers last week for not taking action against violators in their respective wards.

While the BMTF is being flooded with complaints ever since it made provisions to lodge complaints online, it is finding it tough to attend to them as it is understaffed, said a senior police officer.
