The Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force (BMTF) has registered a case against former Mayor D. Venkatesh Murthy and his wife K. Prabha for encroaching on a civic amenity (CA) site measuring 12,000 sq ft at Padmanabhanagar.

The site belongs to the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) and is estimated to be worth over Rs. 10 crore.

The BMTF has also booked two BDA officials, who allegedly helped Mr. Murthy acquire the property illegally.

The site is part of a layout developed by Jayanagar House Building Co-operative Society at Padmanabhanagar (Ward 182).

Fake documents

Mr. Murthy had allegedly created fake property documents claiming ownership and had got the site registered in his wife's name.

The BMTF, which conducted a detailed probe, summoned Mr. Murthy and the officials concerned and recorded their statement. “We found that they have created bogus documents to claim ownership. The two BDA officers helped with the registration," a senior police officer told The Hindu .

BMTF’s Superintendent of Police D. Devraj said that a notice had been issued to BDA to recover the encroached land.
