The Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force (BMTF) continued to crack the whip on the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) engineers for not initiating action against encroachers and violators of the building bylaws.

Assistant Executive Engineers (AEE) of Padmanabha Nagar, JC Nagar and Basavanagudi were booked on November 7 under Section 217 of IPC.

Now, the number of AEEs booked by BMTF has crossed 30.

The BMTF, following a series of complaints against the AEEs from the general public for not acting on their complaints, has been taking action against them since February.

The Padmanabha Nagar and JC Nagar AEEs have been booked for not taking action against building violators and land encroachers despite receiving complaints followed by notices from the BMTF. And, the Basavangudi area AEE has been booked for failing to act against an unauthorised commercial building and allowing people who own it to run the office of a trust there.

Cause and effect

Being a watchdog, the BMTF is flooded with complaints from the general public against the BBMP officials for not acting on their complaints.

The number of such complaints has increased manifold after the BMTF launched a website making provision for people to file complaints online.

With the number of complaints on the rise, the BMTF officials brought this to the notice of the BBMP higher-ups but it did not yield any positive result, so the BMTF started filing cases against the officials concerned, a senior police official told The Hindu .
