With Namma Metro changing the way many Bengalureans travel, the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) is looking at augmenting feeder services to some stations. Its internal surveys have indicated viability of services and also a demand to connect more areas to the nearest metro stations.
From this week, residents of Vasanthnagar and surrounding areas will find it easier to reach the Cubbon Park metro station as BMTC will be introducing feeder services to the station. Feeder services to metro stations began from the time the completed Purple Line to Mysore Road station was thrown open. Several buses are already plying between S.V. Road station and ITPL, and around the Vijayanagar and Mysore Road stations.
BMTC’s decision to start feeder services from J.C. Nagar, Vasanthnagar and Cantonment station area comes following requests from residents. “We did a survey recently and found that there was a lot of demand for feeder buses connecting these areas. It was decided to start them this week,” said B.C. Renukeshwar, chief traffic manager (operations), BMTC.
“There is more demand in Hebbal…. We intend to carry out a survey there next. Other possible service areas include Hennur, Banaswadi, Kasturinagar and Old Banaswadi Road,” Mr. Renukeshwar said. He added that the normal bus services around Old Airport Road and Inner Ring Road were frequent enough not to warrant feeder services.
