Holiday announced for schools, colleges in Bengaluru, other parts of Karnataka

The State government has declared that districts can announce a two-day holiday for schools and colleges on Monday and Tuesday due to the BMTC and KSRTC strike. Deputy Commissioners of respective districts have been authorised to announce holidays, based on the situation. Bengaluru district Comissioner V. Shankar has declared a two-day holiday for schools and colleges in Bengaluru.

Many schools who had unit tests have postponed their tests on another date. Bangalore University in a press release has also pointed out that all the undergraduate and postgraduate exams scheduled on Monday have been postponed and the date would be intimated later. However, university authorities said that the decision on conducting Tuesday’s exam is still not yet decided. The second round of for Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental colleges of Karnataka counseling for engineering aspirants will be held as per schedule.

As many as 23,000 buses are likely to remain off roads, according to estimates by unions, as wage revision talks with the government did not succeed on Saturday.

Update at 7 p.m.: The Department of Public Instruction has announced that local Deputy Commissioners of respective districts were authorised to give two-days holiday, based on the situation. Bengaluru district Comissioner V. Shankar has declared a holiday for schools and colleges in Bengaluru.

Belagavi Deputy Commissioner N. Jayaram declared a holiday for all schools and colleges in Belagavi district for one day, Monday. A one-day holiday has been announced in Koppal as well. Holiday has not been declared for schools and colleges in Shivamogga, Hassan, Davangere and Chitradurga.
