People residing in areas surrounding Attibele and Chandapura on Hosur Road can now travel to Kempegowda Bus Station (Majestic) by purchasing a single ticket for the journey even if they change buses en-route.
The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) on Saturday launched the first of Samparka Sarige Buses (feeder service) to solve the first and last mile connectivity to villages adjoining Hosur Road, one of the 12 trunk routes in the city.
Transport Minister and BMTC Chairman R. Ramalinga Reddy flagged off the services of 27 Midi buses in the presence of B. Shivanna, Anekal MLA, and other dignitaries at the Anekal Bus Stand near here.
Mr. Reddy said feeder services, through branded Midi buses, would be introduced for all the 12 trunk routes in a phased manner.
BMTC managing director Anjum Parvez told The Hindu that the 27 feeder services would cater to about 1.8 lakh people residing in 77 villages adjoining Hosur Road with a frequency of thirty minutes. The frequency hitherto had been about three hours for direct services either to the Kempe Gowda Bus Station or K.R. Market.
Feeder services would bring passengers to Hosur Road from where they can take the Trunk Services to the Kempe Gowda Bus Station and back. Passengers need to purchase a single ticket towards the destination, which would be valid for three-and-a-half hours, he said. Every minute one trunk service would leave Chandapura towards the Kempe Gowda Bus Station KBS and as many 64 new buses are being operated on the three trunk routes — KBS 3A, KBS 3C and KBS 3E.
