BMTC driver rams bus into tree after brake failure, averts major mishap

An alert BMTC bus averted a major mishap on Nrupatunga Road after the brake on his vehicle failed to apply on Wednesday morning. Sensing some issue with the braking system, the driver alerted other motorists by continuously honking and then rammed the bus into a road-side tree to bring it to a halt. The driver sustained minor injuries in the impact. The incident happened around 11 a.m.

The empty BMTC bus was going towards Shanti Nagar depot from Majestic for repair after it broke-down on Sheshadri Road.

Following the incident, traffic movement was disrupted for sometime on Nrupatunga Road.

The Halasuru traffic police personnel, who were are monitoring the signal, rushed to the spot and with the help of a private towing vehicle shifted the bus to allow free flow of traffic.

The driver’s alertness has averted a major disaster, a senior police officer said.
