BMTC bus knocks down bike, 35-year-old rider dies

A 35-year-old man was killed after his motorcycle was knocked down by a BMTC bus at Madiwala here on Monday evening.

Traffic police sources identified the victim as Boopalan Ponnuraj. He was working as a housekeeping staff in a hotel on Old Airport Road here. The accident took place at around 8.30 p.m. when Ponnuraj was returning home from work. When he reached the road near Madiwala market, the speeding bus from behind hit his bike.

A severely injured Ponnuraj died on the spot. A traffic police team reached the spot and sent his body for post-mortem following preliminary probe. The bus driver has been arrested.

Ponnuraj, a resident of BTM Layout, is survived by his wife and two young children, sources added.
