A Peenya-Majestic bound BMTC bus caught fire at Laggere Bridge on Thursday morning, falling under RMC Yard police station limits.

No casualties have been reported as all the passengers safely exited from the bus. A battery short-circuit is said to be the cause of the fire.

The incident happened around 10.45 a.m. while the bus was heading to Majestic with over 20 passengers on board. On reaching Laggere Bridge the bus driver noticed smoke emanating from the engine and alerted the passengers before coming to a halt.

The passengers ran to safety before the bus was engulfed in fire. Fire tenders rushed to the spot and put out the fire. Traffic movement on Laggere Bridge was disrupted for some time.
