BMRCL told to set up multi-level parking lots

With the number of vehicles parked haphazardly by the roads near Namma Metro stations going up, the State government has asked Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited to construct automated multi-level parking lots on PPP model.

Bengaluru Development Minister K.J. George on Tuesday said BMRCL managing director Pradeep Singh Kharola has been instructed to identify locations near the stations to construct multi-level parking lots by roping in private investors.

At Baiyappanahalli station, on the NGEF side, for example, the designated parking lot gets filled up early in the day, forcing commuters who come later to park their vehicles on the approach road.

Mr. George told reporters that BMRCL would take some time to develop the parking lots.

He added that he would hold talks with Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy on providing feeder bus services at major metro stations.
