Transport Minister R. Ashok on Tuesday said the proposed Inter-Modal Transit Centre (IMTC) at Subhashnagar (Majestic) is awaiting Chief Minister's clearance. “Once he gives his approval, the work on this complex will begin,” the Minister said.

He was speaking to presspersons after inspecting the ongoing construction of the travel and transit management centre (TTMC) at Vijayanagar here. The multi-floor bus station complex at Majestic will house bus bays for the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) and Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) on different floors, Mr. Ashok said.

Parking facility

Besides housing the intra-city and inter-city bus stations, the complex will offer abundant parking facility for four-wheelers and two-wheelers. It will be the biggest bus station complex offering connectivity between intra-city, inter-city and inter-State bus services, the Metro and the Railways, he added.

Sources in KSRTC said that the IMTC proposal includes two parts — bus station and commercial complex. Both the bus station and the commercial complex will be built under public-private partnership since the corporation is not in a position to invest huge amount on the construction, sources said. The actual construction, however, will start a year before the Bangalore Metro completes its underground station work at Majestic, they added.

Vijayanagar TTMC

On the Vijayanagar TTMC, Mr. Ashok said the complex would be ready for operation by July this year. The TTMC was planned to ease traffic congestion in Vijayanagar area where parking space was a problem.

The Minister said that the Vijaynagar TTMC was being built at the cost of Rs. 53.26 crore and the total built up area would be about 30,000 sq m. The complex would accommodate the bus depot at the basement, bus station on the ground floor, two upper floors of office space with public amenities like toilets, restrooms, BangaloreOne, post office, and so on. It will also have multi-level parking space for 375 cars and 350 two-wheelers.

Mr. Ashok said TTMCs at Banashankari, Bannerghatta, Koramangala, Kengeri, Shanthinagar, ITPL, Yeshwanthpur and Domlur are nearing completion.
