The BJP on Saturday demanded the resignation of Textiles and Ports Minister Baburao Chinchansur, who allegedly demanded a Rs. 2-crore bribe from a contractor who was awarded work for developing the backwaters at Gangolli fisheries port in Kundapur.

Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Jagadish Shettar told reporters here that Mr. Chinchansur should be dropped from the Cabinet. He played the tape-recorded voice, allegedly of Mr. Chinchansur, before the media, in which the Minister is seeking a bribe from the contractor.

CBI probe sought

Mr. Shettar also demanded a CBI enquiry into the matter to ferret out the truth. The audio contained reference to Industries Minister R.V. Deshpande, the BJP leader alleged, and demanded his resignation also.
