Close on the heels of the speculation that the Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is trying to bring down the Congress government through issues such as Arkavathi denotification, BJP General Secretary C. T. Ravi on Thursday made it clear the party was not in a hurry to return to power in Karnataka where elections are scheduled only in 2016.
“Still three years are left for Karnataka Assembly polls. We will not destabilise the government which has another three year’s term. We will not resort to any unparliamentary ways to return to power,” he told a press conference at the sidelines of the Party’s national office-bearers’ meeting in Bengaluru.
At the same time, he remarked that, “If the Congress government collapses on its own, then it is its own fate.”
He claimed that the BJP was confident of winning the Karnataka Assembly elections against the Congress irrespective of when they are held.
The massive protest by people with respect to the issue of death of IAS officer D.K. Ravi under mysterious conditions was an indication that there was a public resentment against the Congress government, he said.
He said the Party national executive would give a special focus on strengthening the party organisation in Karnataka.
