The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday took the demand for a CBI probe into the alleged suicide of Deputy Superintendent of Police M.K. Ganapathy to Delhi, with its MPs from Karnataka staging a dharna in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue on the Parliament premises.
Meanwhile, speaking in Belagavi, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council K.S. Eshwarappa said the BJP had taken a stand that even the Kallappa Handibag case should be handed over to the CBI. Alleging that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was trying to influence the ongoing probe into these cases in a bid to protect those close to him, Mr. Eshwarappa said it was not possible to bring out the truth through the ongoing inquiry by the CID.
Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Jagadish Shettar questioned the claims of the Chief Minister that K.J. George had quit voluntarily. He wondered why the Minister had not offered to voluntarily quit as soon as Ganapathy died. Mr. Shettar also sought to downplay the allegations of the Chief Minister that several Union Ministers were facing cases and FIRs. “If the Chief Minister is confident that such Ministers are facing legal problems, let him convince Congress leader in the Lok Sabha M. Mallikarjun Kharge to take up the issue,” he said.
