The Bharatiya Janata Party high command is learnt to have made it clear to its State unit that it would not reach out to former Prime Minister and JD(S) supremo H.D. Deve Gowda or any of his party leaders seeking an alliance in the BBMP council.
According to BJP sources, the party high command has instructed its State unit that it should forge an alliance only if it is well within the democratic norms and free from any unreasonable demands. “The stern message from our high command is to sit in the Opposition if the JD(S) does not show interest in forging an alliance,” a senior leader told The Hindu .
Meanwhile, there are conflicting views within the party’s State unit itself over forging an alliance with the JD(S). Several MLAs, especially those from Bengaluru city and some State-level office-bearers, are said to have voiced their reservations over the moves to tie-up with the JD(S). “Forging an alliance with the JD(S) may not go well with our supporters and especially those who voted for us. It is better to maintain our identity and sit in the Opposition,” said a senior leader.
Following all these developments, the BJP camp remained quiet on Sunday unlike the previous day when there were hectic activities.
