BJP asks governor to take note of ‘deteriorating situation’ in state

In line with the party’s campaign against the ruling Congress Government, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has submitted a memorandum to Governor Vajubhai Vala alleging “a deteriorating situation in all aspects of governance” and demanding that the governor “take cognisance of it”. It has also asked governor to “take necessary steps under Constitutional guidelines to bring the administration on the right track.”

In the memorandum singed by party state president Pralhad Joshi and other leaders, the party drew the attention of the Governor to what they called “maladministration” of the Karnataka Government under Chief Minister Siddramaiah over the last 17 months. It claimed that while the state suffered “due to indecision” in the first year, it was now “reeling under lawlessness.”

The memorandum cited a series of incidents to bolster the party’s claim, including the attack of IAS officer Rashmi, sexual abuse of a child in a private school in Jalahalli, attack on people from the North-East and the ongoing stand-off between government doctors and the Health Department. The memorandum also cited Lokayukta filing FIR against Wakf Minister Qumaraul Islam.

The BJP has already threatened protests “inside and outside the legislature” during the winter session at Belgaum if the problems of sugarcane growers are not addressed. They said that the government had gone back on its promise of ensuring Rs. 2,650 per tonne of sugarcane.

The party has also said the committee headed by former law minister Suresh Kumar on the Arkavathy denotification case to the party state leadership on October 6 and the issue “will be taken to a logical end.” The party has charged Mr. Siddaramaiah government for denotifying Arkavathy layout land flouting norms.
