Big plans in store for IISc.

June 27, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - BENGALURU:

After having trained nearly 6,000 school teachers in the last five years at its Talent Development Centre in Challakere, Chitradurga campus, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc.) will now extend the training to college teachers as well, revealed Anurag Kumar, Director, IISc.

The institute has an area of nearly 1,500 acres in the Science City project.

Addressing the audience at the third Global Alumni Meet – the first in Bengaluru – Mr. Kumar said a Skill Development Centre will be constructed in the campus following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to IISc. this February.

The big plans are not just for the second campus. Mr. Kumar said the Bengaluru campus will be made a “modern, digital campus” in the next two to three years for which an information technology had also been set up.

Apart from digitisation, a ‘Development Office’ to look at the area of funding, and offices of alumni and international relations have been set up at the institute, that has completed over a century of existence, he added.

Ranking

Commenting on rankings, some of which have put IISc. among the top 500 institutions in the world, Mr. Kumar said a committee and a consultant had been engaged to set right one problem: giving out complete data.

Bharat Ratna C.N.R. Rao, who was felicitated, said IISc. was the only institution in the country that can match global standards.
