The seventh edition of the Bangalore International Film Festival (BIFFes), to be held from December 4 to 11, will offer a bouquet of the best of the world cinema, besides national and regional classics.
The festival will be inaugurated on December 4 at Ambedkar Bhavan here and regular screenings will commence on December 5.
170 films, 11 screensAs many as 170 films from 44 countries will be shown on 11 screens. Fun Cinema (three screens) and Inox Lido (four screens) will be centres of attraction. In the previous edition, films were shown on seven screens. This edition will showcase films that have won awards in major festivals across the world.
This year’s focus is on contemporary issue — gender violence. There will also be discussion on the topic.
Eleven films of Krzysztof Zanussi (Poland) and Phillip Noyce (Australia) will be screened in the Retrospective Section and 13 films from the Netherlands and South Korea will be screened in the Country Focus section.
Tributes to legendsSpecial tributes will be paid to Dadasaheb Phalke Award recipient cinematographer V.K. Murthy by screening six films. Tributes will also be paid to Jnanpith recipient U.R. Ananthamurthy by screening films that were based on his works.
In the Homage section, tributes will be paid to filmmakers such as K.M. Shankarappa, Balu Mahendra and Alain Resnais. One film each by Honnappa Bhagavathar and Hunsur Krishnamurthy will be screened to mark the centenary of the two legends of Kannada cinema.
