April 26, 2014 11:16 pm | Updated May 21, 2016 01:31 pm IST - BANGALORE:

Beginning next month, all consumers of Bescom will receive their electricity bills within the 15th day of every month under a new billing system. The system has 58.79 lakh consumers, of which 15.68 lakh had a billing cycle that fell after the 15th of each month.

Better monitoring A Bescom release said the decision to sync the billing cycle was taken to facilitate “better monitoring of revenue collection, measure Aggregate Technical and Commercial (AT&C) losses accurately every month and to evaluate the performance of sub-division offices.”

Under the new system, the billing and payment for all Bescom consumers will be completed within the same month.

For example, if a consumer is billed on May 12, he/she will be given 15 days’ time to make the payment. As a result, the entire cycle will be restricted to the same month.

As for this month, consumers whose meter reading was taken after April 15 will be billed from the date of last reading to new reading date on a pro-rata basis.
