A 44-year-old lineman working for Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) was electrocuted while repairing an electric pole at the Yelahanka industrial area on Friday.

The deceased Madiwala M. Mathapathi climped up the electric pole to check the installations, when an IT company situated nearby switched on the generator following a power cut. Due to reverse flow of power, Mathapathi was electrocuted and thrown up in the air.

According to the police, Mathapathi was working with BESCOM for the last six years and lived with his wife and their nine-year-old son and four-year-old daughter in a rented house at Chikkabommasandra.

The other Bescom staff, with the help of passers-by, rushed Mathapathi to a near-by hospital, where doctors declared him as brought dead.

The Yelahakna New Town police have registered a case of death due to negligence and are investigating.
