Bengaluru steel flyover tender put on hold

July 01, 2016 09:41 am | Updated 09:41 am IST - Bengaluru:

Buckling to virulent opposition to the proposed steel flyover from Basaveshwara Circle to Hebbal flyover, on the road leading to the Kempegowda International Airport, the State government on Thursday put on hold the tender for the project which was in the final stages of being awarded.

The government will now hold wide-ranging public consultations with various civic groups before finalising the project. “These inputs will be incorporated and placed for approval before the Metropolitan Planning Committee,” Bengaluru Development Minister K.J. George said after a meeting with urban experts, during which the plan ran into much opposition.

Mr. George on Thursday met, among others, Biocon chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw and Flipkart founder Sachin Bansal.

A suggestion to realign the flyover, taking it via Cantonment railway station, Jayamahal Road and Mehkri Circle, instead of the current alignment, was also made.

The Minister asked Bangalore Development Authority to conduct a feasibility study of the new alignment too.
