Bengaluru railway station gets stair lift

April 04, 2015 03:48 pm | Updated 03:48 pm IST - Renuka Phadnis

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu inaugurated a stair lift for the differently-abled and senior citizens, and a cold water vending machine at the Bengaluru City Railway Station on Saturday.

Passenger-friendly amenities will continue to be introduced and scaled up at railway stations throughout the country, he said.

This is the first stair lift at the city station, where escalators have been operating for a few months. People with a mobility problem can sit on the stair lift, which moves them up the steps along the railing; they do not have to depend on another person for help.

The stair lift is free of charge to users. At present, however, the facility on Platform 1 at the Bangalore City Railway Station reaches short of the landing.

The cooled purified water will be priced Re. 1 a glass.
