Bell-mouth shaped entry ideal for hospitals: traffic expert

May 04, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - Bengaluru:

Hospitals should ideally have a bell-mouth shaped entrance that is not situated close to traffic junctions, intersections and bus-stands, said traffic expert M.N. Sreehari.

Victoria Hospital requires two main entry gates at different points, Mr. Srihari said. While one gate can be used exclusively as an entrance for ambulances, emergency and service vehicles, the other gate can be used for autorickshaws and other private vehicles bringing patients, he added. “The authorities should shift the entry point in Victoria hospital from the existing place near the Fort. For exiting, a gate should be opened on Mysore Road side,” he said.

Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital, whose entrance is adjacent to the bustling Shivajinagar bus-stand, could also have separate exit and entry points, he suggested. However, Bowring Hospital authorities said multiple entry/exit points would only create security problems.
