The death of a seven-year-old child in Lalbagh, who was stung by bees in August, has prompted the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (KSCPCR) to issue an 11-point recommendation for civic authorities to follow in their parks.

It includes installation of first aid box in all parks owned by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA).

On August 15, Vaishnavi, a resident of Padmanabhanagar, was visiting the Independence Day flower show with her parents. She was stung by a swarm of bees.

The accident saw the Horticulture Department take a series of steps to ensure such incidents did not recur in Lalbagh, no such precautions were taken in the numerous parks that dot the city. The other KSPCR recommendations include installation of fire extinguishers, starting a help line, keeping ambulances nearby, a public audio system and siren, boards educating visitors on what to do in case of a bee attack and other emergencies.
