The Yelahanka police arrested a five-member gang whose members allegedly had a lucrative career robbing people who accepted lifts in their cars.
One of the gang member is an engineering graduate and another, an NGO functionary.
The gang is accused of robbing at least 42 people in the last few months, and having purchased a car and a piece of land with the loot.
The police seized Rs. 23.5-lakh worth gold jewellery, Rs. 75,000-worth silver, Rs. 2 lakh in cash, two cars, four laptops and mobile phones from the gang.
The arrested men are Ravi Koorlappa (29), Ramakrishna Narayanappa (23), Manja alias Maskanna (25), Yallappa Papaiah (23) (all from Geddalapalya village near Hadonahalli in Doddaballapur taluk) and Ambarish Hanumantha of Madalagudda village in Manvi taluk in Raichur. “While Ravi is an engineering graduate in Electronics and Computer Science, Ramakrishana is the president of the Akhila Karnataka Bhovigala Sangha (Thubagere hobli unit),” Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-east Division) Ravikante Gowda said.
The gang allegedly robbed its passengers at night-time in the vicinity of Yelahanka, K.R. Puram, Jalahalli, Chikkajala, Devanahalli, Chennammanakere Achukattu, Banashankari, HAL, Peenya, Subrahmanyanagar, Doddaballapur, Avalahalli, Nelamangala, Madivala, Mahadevapur, Hebbal, Basavanagudi, Ulsoor and Hoskote.
The Yelahanka police suspect there are more victims.
