The fight between Bangalore University (BU) and Bengaluru Central University (BCU) for possession of the natural science and the physics block in the Central College campus has intensified.
BCU on Wednesday began repairs in the physics block where the answerscripts of students are kept. The Higher Education Department asked BCU to stop repairs after BU officials expressed concern about damage to the answersheets.
The evaluation of 22 lakh answerscripts of 3.5 lakh undergraduate students is scheduled to take place on May 26 in nine evaluation camps sent up in Central College. As many as 4,000 evaluators are expected to report for duty. The scanning of answerscripts started on Tuesday.
S. Japhet, Vice Chancellor of BCU, said that the university is in a hurry to start new departments in the premises. “We are awaiting a government direction. The BCU did not have prior information that evaluation would be conducted on its premises. Bangalore University will have to make alternate arrangements,” he said, adding that BU could use the space provided by affiliated colleges to conduct the evaluation.
However, I.S. Shivakumara, in-charge Vice Chancellor of BU, said that the grading process will have to take place in Central College, as it would be difficult to shift the answerscripts at this stage.
