A Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) revenue official died of cardiac arrest on Saturday evening in the office of Joint Commissioner (East zone). According to BBMP sources, the official, Venkatesh (58), was an assessor in the H.B.R. Layout sub-division office. He had come to the office of the Joint Commissioner (East zone) around 5.30 p.m. Bystanders realised something was wrong when he kneeled down.

Colleagues rushed him to Bowring Hospital in a prahari (inspection vehicle). However, doctors declared him brought dead. Sources said that the deceased was a law graduate who had put in many years of service in the BBMP. Joint Commissioner Venkateshappa said that one his immediate relatives will be given employment in the civic body on compassionate grounds.

Sources in the BBMP’s Revenue Department said that many officials were suffering from stress-related ailments due to mounting pressure to increase tax collection. They claimed that another official, Mallaiah, an Assistant Revenue Officer in Domlur, had also died of cardiac arrest recently.
