Civic officials have finally started to crack the whip on cable operators routing cables on trees and poles on TenderSURE roads. On Tuesday, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials started to cut cables hanging overhead on Cunningham Road and plan to extend this to other roads in the Central Business District in the coming days.

Vijay Kumar, Executive Engineer (OFC Cell), said that 300 to 400 m of cables had been removed until afternoon. “Agencies that came to us for explanation on why the cables have been cut have been told to get permission and reroute the cables underground.”

So far, only a small stretch of the footpath has been cleared and cables remain on the footpath. Mr. Kumar said that other TenderSURE roads in the vicinity including Residency Road, St. Mark’s Road, Commissiarate Road, and Vittal Mallya Road would be taken up in the coming days.
