A day after the Karnataka High Court took the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to task over cleanliness, the civic body started a ‘Clean Bengaluru’ campaign.
Nearly 1,000 km of roads in all eight zones will be the focus of the campaign that was launched by Bengaluru Development minister K.J. George on Saturday.
The campaign, involving various citizens’ groups and corporates, will see selected roads being cleared of solid waste, e-waste, construction debris and silt on the kerbs. Footpaths and shoulder drains will also be cleared of encroachments and obstructions.
According to a press release, as many as 324 roads have been identified, with a majority in the East zone (73). As many as 62 roads have been identified in the West zone, 59 in South, 49 in Bommanahalli, 30 in Dasarahalli, 29 in Mahadevapura, 15 in Yelahanka and 7 in Rajarajeshwarinagar zones.
A public notice urging citizens to cooperate in the campaign that will go on till March 3, 2018, has been issued by BBMP Commissioner N. Manjunath Prasad. A mobile application has also been developed and is available on Google Play Store.
