Even as the city recorded about 36 mm rainfall on Thursday, officials of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) pulled up their socks and got to work, even planning ahead for the worst.

Prahari teams were rushed to locations which were water logged, such as H.S.R. Layout, Koramangala, Adugodi Main Road, and to East End Main Road, B.E.M.L. Main Road, New Thippasandra and J.P. Nagar, where there were reports of tree fall.

Advisory

The BBMP has taken steps to prevent a repeat of the horror during the heavy downpour last month where several streets and houses were inundated.

Apart from pruning trees, removing silt from drains and fencing and widening existing ones, the palike has issued guidelines on the precautions to be taken during the rain, especially to those living in low-lying areas.

Children and the elderly have been asked to steer clear of manholes and drains and not venture out during the rain as visibility is low.

People have also been advised not to stand under trees and electric poles or near dilapidated structures.

Residents of houses located in low-lying areas have been asked to shift to safe locations as a precautionary measure in case of heavy rain. The palike has urged them to contact the BBMP control rooms as soon as possible in case of emergencies so that timely help can be rendered.
