Criticising the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) for its “callous” attitude towards the increasing dog bite cases in the city, activists of the Kannada Chaluvali Vatal Paksha staged a protest demonstration in front of the BBMP office on Saturday.
Holding black flags and placards, the protesters shouted slogans against the palike. “The BBMP should pay a compensation of Rs. 5 lakh to the parents of two-year-old Sandeep, who was mauled to death by dogs near Yelahanka on Friday,” Kannada Chaluvali Vatal Paksha president Vatal Nagaraj demanded.
“The palike is directly responsible for the increasing number of dog bite cases in Bangalore. Although several children have been mauled to death in the last three years, the BBMP has not taken any concrete step to stop the stray dog menace,” Mr. Nagaraj said.
He wanted the BBMP to create greater awareness among the people about keeping their surroundings clean.
He also condemned the police action against residents of Malleswaram, who were protesting against tree felling on Sankey Road.
