BBMP engineer granted bail

More than a month after being arrested, Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP)'s Executive Engineer of Gandhinagar division I. Vendon was granted bail on Wednesday by the 4th Fast Track Court.

Sources said that Mr. Vendon, who was arrested on November 25 for his alleged involvement in the multi-crore bogus bill scam, is likely to be released from jail on Thursday. He was remanded in judicial custody.

It may be recalled that the scam was detected in three divisions — Rajarajeshwarinagar, Gandhinagar and Malleswaram — by the former Commissioner Siddaiah. The Technical Vigilance Cell under Commissioner (TVCC) confirmed this and stated that similar scams may have occurred in the other divisions of the BBMP.

The BBMP engineers staged a demonstration in the head office protesting against the alleged illegal detention of the engineer. They had claimed that the BMTF personnel had called Mr. Vendon to inspect roads and had then arrested him. The then Inspector-General of Police of BMTF R.P. Sharma had rubbished the allegations.
